Interview with Pour Habit E-mail
Monday, 11 February 2008
Pour Habit is a 5 piece Punk Rock band who calls Compton, California their home. Exploding on the scene and injecting fun, energy and great musicianship to boot.Technical and melodic Punk Rock, blazing dual guitar attack with blistering leads, low-end fury and tight precise drumming. The vocals fully complement the music featuring a passionatemelodic flow which definitely separates them from the plethora of bandsout their. Already playing shows with the giants of Punk Rock: Strung Out, Death By Stereo, Guttermouth, D.I. they are destined for great things. Enjoy their songs on their myspace page as well as view their current tour schedule @: http://www.myspace.com/pourhabit  They have a new album, "Suiticide", definitely pick this up at only $12 and support a kick ass local band. Here is brief interview I did with the singer Chuck

1. I know one Shaun's favorite bands is Machine Head, but what are the other influential bands that Pour Habit enjoy?

~ well Guttermouth, Strung Out, NOFX, Authority Zero, Cigar, Sloppy Seconds, Digger, Death By Stereo, Thrice, Bad Religion, Pantera, The
O'Briens, Bouncing Souls, No Fun At All, Pennywise, Adhesive, Lagwagon, Misery Signals, Against Me, BlackStar, Rise Against, System of a Down, Strike Anywhere, Rage Against the Machine, NUFAN, Dillinger escape plan, Propaghandi, Dead Kennedys, Tupac, Adolescents, Vandals, All of those bands played a big role for us as far as writing and playing.

2. Favorite pre-show ritual?

~trying to find drink tickets and all of us putting our hands in and cheering... "Whoahh BUNDY!"

3. Favorite watering hole of Pour Habit?

~that would have to be Dragonfly in Hollywood on Sunday nights...tons of chicks, jabberwalkees and booze, big ups to Wes and crew!

4. Where did you record and any scandalous or funny studio stories?

~we recorded our first album 'Suiticide' @ love juice labs in la habra. TJ was our engineer and he does damn great work(he now has his own
studio, I-10 recording)! as with any recording session, someone falls down, gets hit in the head with something, throws up, gets drunk or possibly farts. all of that happened and then some...plus Chuck got chased by a hooker down the street.

5. Favorite venue and why?

~that's a toss up between the Vault 350 in long beach, CA. and the Marquee Theater in Tempe, AZ. both of those venues are on a large scale
and they treat a small local band like us as equals. plus we always get drink tickets, which rule!

6. Favorite city to play and why?

~long beach, cause its close to home and what better place to be than close to home. but then again, there are many awesome cities to play.
while on tour with Authority Zero we came across tons of cities that ruled!

7. Favorite eatery?

~depends. if its a question of being faded and hungry, del taco gets the award, but if its on the sober side, nothing beats home cooking, unless it has a fat ass $.99 value meal.

8. Bands that Pour Habit enjoy that have nothing to do with your genre?

~Gregory Isaacs and everything jazz and reggae! oh and as Steve says...Pat Benatar yo!

9. Favorite Movie genres?

~anything that doesn't suck! comedies now a days seem to try to hard, they just don't get it. i guess action movies takes the cake.

10. Best perk free drinks or chicks?

~well if you have one of them, the other wont be far behind and will also be free. actually, scratch that, both are best with massive
jabberwalkees close by.

11. Band that you most want to play with?

~we've played with our influences, our friends and bands that we listen to on a regular basis. we would just like to continue playing with everyone, old bands and new bands.

12. Beer or Booze?

~we're Pour Habit, does it matter? haha, 40% crew foo, better recognize!!!

13. What is your practice routine?

~try to not be sick, try and not f**k up, and always have fun! oh, and
vocal warm-ups are a must...

14. What is your songwriting process?

~haha, there's a process? we usually just come together at practice and someone has an idea and we all throw our input in. kinda like a bunch of monkeys sorting out bananas.

15. Favorite extracurricular activities?

~snowboarding...i think we all enjoy that, but it could be a number of things. oh wait, never mind, lifting weights would actually have to be the favorite. Guttermouth once labeled us the "...kick your ass band!". and Bill Marcks from Authority Zero swears we use Vitamin S, LOL!

16. An ideal day...?

~playing a huge show then getting blasted with all of our friends and not having to worry about driving! oh, and massive amounts of tacos and
jabberwalkees!!!

17. Mosh pit or hardcore pit?

~both, as long as everyone is enjoying the music and having fun, that's all that matters.

18. Fat Wreck Chords or Epitaph?

~we love fat bands and we love epitaph bands. or are you asking what label would we like to be on? hmm...

19. Day jobs, those annoying things you have to do to eat and buy stuff?

~Colin(drums) and Shaun(guitar) are personal trainers and work for 24hr fitness. Steve(bass/vocals) works somewhere in downtown l.a., but he's kinda like the character Tommy from the old t.v. show Martin... (no one has actually seen him work) haha. Eric(lead guitar) is in school right now grabbing a degree and Chuck(vocals) is still in the process of finding one...

20. Pizza: Thin Crust or Thick?

~thicka than a snicka please!!!

~chuck

I have been blessed with the opertunity to not only see these guys rock out (and really they do!) but to be friends with them. Being a musician myself, I have never run across a better group of guys, or a band that really does know how to have fun, play hard, party hard, and have no egos what so ever. If you havent checked them out, you are definatly missing out on a life changing experiance. Oh yeah, and one question I would have liked to read in this interview is who the biggest hater is in the band! (shaun!)lol
