The beats are hella tight, like Helen Keller right, so you know it's fresh and it's outta sight...we have to hurry so that we can eat dinner and have our meeting, so that we can get over to Detroit Bar and see the first of the weekly shows that Sparrow Love Crew is putting on this month. Click read more below to see the entire interview with Kid Wizard from Sparrow Love Crew: How long ago did you guys first decide to create the Sparrow Love Crew? We have all known each other for about five or six years. It started with Devoux, his brother, and Mikey Brixx. They went by Sparrow Love Crew and Duke Danger and I had our own group called Winnie the Crew. We joined forces and started playing shows a little over a year ago under the name Sparrow Love Crew.
Who does the group consist of? Four MCs and a DJ: Duke Danger, Devoux, Mike Brixx, and Kid Wizard and the man with the magic hands is DJ Opi Styles. Our beat man is Koolwalla. If you were forced to define your own sound what would you say? We are all into different styles of music so I don't think we fit into one general category but I guess you could say we have a Ghettotech/Club/Electro feel. Needless to say we get the party started, and keep it going. What is in your tape deck right now? Which bands inspire you? entertain you? Like I said, everyone in the crew listens to different music. As for me personally, I'm rocking M.I.A., We Barbarians, Radiohead, anything Diplo touches, and Freestyle. Where is your favorite place to play? Why? We've played a variety of places. My favorite venue to play is anywhere people are ready to have a riot. The venue can be super Goomba, but if their are people there to get mental, then we're down. The EP was a long time in the making - describe the process? Who was involved? Ha ha...It has taken while. We all have jobs outside of SLC so making time was a big issue. As far as the process, the first thing we did was lay down all of the vocals. Once that was done we had Opi come in because the beats had an itch, and he needed to scratch all over that ish. We had Koolwalla do all the beats for us and Dan Browne (1/2 of Mashed Potatos) both recorded and is mixing the EP for us. How many Tupac albums are you guys expecting to have come out this year? I love tupac, so the more the better. I would say 3... What should we expect to see at the Detroit Bar residency? Alot of people calling in sick for work tuesday. We got a few tricks up our Sleeves. Got some fresh groups and Djs playing with us such as Inverse, Audible manframe, Pony boy curtis and some super chill DJs that will keep people dancin' through the night! What's next for SLC? Any shout outs? We are looking into touring once our EP drops... Start working on the full length album. Pretty much get ready to bend 2008 over. Shout outs to the WESTMONSTER FAMILY and of course Mauve for fresh steezies.
