Hlaska Evergreen Wallet E-mail
Wednesday, 23 January 2008
The use of wood or fake wood grain has been hot in the design world as of late, a progression which I fully endorse. The integration of organic themes into the design of tech products is a fresh twist and provides a welcome alternative to the traditionally modern or retro design. Although this accessory is not electronic, it is a nod in the same direction. The embossed grain makes this piece what it is. (Hint: Carry it in your back pocket, the ladies love to feel the ridges.) Hlaska has some other great designs as well, you can purchase them here. For a look at the wallet that started it all, check out Faith on Juniper.

Booze Jug and Cup E-mail
Friday, 18 January 2008

This handcrafted jug and cup set was created by "Cyrus the Potter" with an old salt firing process common amongst old German jugs and crocks. In his words, these creations were "intended to be used and integrated into daily rituals of eating, drinking and enjoying your surroundings." These are great looking pieces and a fun way to enjoy some alcoholic beverages Kerouac style. See more of his craftsmanship here.

Magic Wooden Clock E-mail
Wednesday, 16 January 2008
This ordinary wooden box transforms into a high-tech, time-telling device when you turn the secret "ON" switch. The display shines through the wood case to show the time. A great, simple design...leave it to the Swedes.

Ron Mueck Fine Art E-mail
Tuesday, 15 January 2008
Born in Melbourne, Australia to toy-maker parents, Ron Mueck labored on children's T.V. shows for over 15 years before he had his first breakout opportunity: a position as head of special effects for the 1986 Motion Picture Labyrinth. Now based in London, Mueck has been dedicating much of his time perfecting his sculpture-work - a talent he has been employing on a grand scale since the early 1990s. Shirking the traditional use of bronze and marble and bronze, Mueck uses fiberglass resin and latex to make his life-like (but not life-sized) masterpieces. For more information visit Ron Mueck's website.

Clever Beer Adverts E-mail
Monday, 14 January 2008
As if I needed any help in the matter, these brilliant beer marketing campaigns just make me want to sit back, relax and put my feet up...way up...above my head while I do a handstand atop the keg and have the nozzle shoved into my mouth. Nothing like sipping a cold one on a warm summer day, or a freezing cold backyard barn party in Minnesota for that matter. Here are some clever and innovative advertisements that make me want to black out.
